OUR STORY
Photo of Mrs Mackenzie and Sir Albert Lind on the site of the then Lucknow Football Club.
In 1951 the Lucknow Football Club was formed and was built on the land donated by Mrs Mackenzie, with the first ball being bounced by Sir Albert Lind. In 1993 netball was introduced into the East Gippsland League and Lucknow changed its name to become the Lucknow Football Netball Club. Since then, football and netball has continued to grow and develop. An example of this, is the current participation rate of both Lucknow’s Auskick program and junior netball participation, both increasing by approximately 100% on last year’s numbers.
A highlight of our rich history is producing several footballers who have gone on to play at AFL level. In 2021, Lucknow Football Netball Club underwent a redevelopment of our facilities unveiling our impressive new club rooms and netball courts during that season. Our club is continuing to move forward and is entering an exciting time with a soon to be developed strategic plan. As a club we are investing in our future by appointing quality coaches, and most importantly providing opportunities for junior development both on and off the court through umpiring, coaching and leadership development.
We are proud of our recent achievements; 2021 saw Lucknow Football Netball Club win the ‘WorkSafe Club of the Year’ Award, and a Netball Victoria ‘Coach of the Year’ nomination. We also currently have a junior netballer on the inaugural Netball Victoria Youth Advisory Committee. For the health and wellbeing of our players, we ensure we have properly trained Trainers to support both our footballer’s and netballer’s and have commenced providing a club-facilitated first aid and strapping course, coordinated by our club Physiotherapist. There are however many expenses associated with running the club and we rely on the support of local businesses to continue to develop our club by appointing quality coaches, providing development opportunities for our players, organising guest player appearances and contining to improve our facilities so as we can provide the best possible experience for our sponsors and supporters. Just some of the exciting projects we hope to be able to achieve in the near future with your support, are the addition of another netball court, netting behind each of the football goals and eventually an indoor court. Our eventual aim would be to establish a creche or childcare facility to care for children to allow families to continue to play.
